Do you know how many EVs there are in Maine?

As EVs are growing in popularity, the frequency of seeing them across Maine grows weekly. Between plug-in hybrid electric cars and fully electric (battery-powered) vehicles, registrations are rapidly growing.

Maine EV Numbers

8,048 registered EVs as of July 2022 representing massive growth from only 2,926 in July 2019. Given limited models, covid restrictions and supply chain issues, and inflation, the numbers are significant.

The state has an ambitious plan to increase this number to 41,000 by 2025 and 219,000 by 2030. Planned under the Mill’s Administration’s Climate Action Plan, the goals are ambitious, for sure. Between the $7500 federal EV tax credit and state rebates for both EVs and charger installation, a lot of financial incentive exists.

Similarly, the number of EV chargers statewide has increased rapidly as well. Over the last two years, the number of public chargers has grown 50% to over 400 units at present.

Spotlight: Chevy Bolt

The Chevy Bolt is an electric vehicle (EV) produced by General Motors (GM). It was first introduced in 2017 as a five-door hatchback with a range of around 238 miles per charge. The Bolt features a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor that produces 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. It has a top speed of 93 miles per hour and can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds.

The Bolt has received generally positive reviews for its smooth and quiet ride, spacious interior, and advanced safety features, such as automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning. It also features a large 10.2-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a rearview camera that provides a 360-degree view around the car.

Overall, the Chevy Bolt is a well-regarded electric vehicle that offers a good balance of range, performance, and practicality at an affordable price point. In addition, GM has recently announced an updated version of the Bolt, the Bolt EUV, which is a larger crossover-style vehicle with more advanced features and a longer range.
